Still Procrastinating...

...but what else is new. I finished one paper and still have three pages to finish on the other one and it's been driving me crazy all weekend. Thankfully, I have until 2:30 to finish it and print them both out and I'll probably work on it during class but argh. Just aaaargh.

Weregeek is getting back to where someone who's not a total gamer geek might understand bits of it. Beware! For there are those who hunt geeks like us besides the usual. Also, there's a slight LANGUAGE WARNING for some strips.

Oh, and I've finally got a shiny new PIJAC certificate and a little card to put in my wallet. So I'm officially a certified bird specialist for the next three years.

Some of you are probably wondering where this sudden interest in birds came from. Actually, I had three cockatiels when I was about eight. They were pretty cool, but we had no clue what we were doing with birds and they chewed up my room so we eventually gave them away to somebody who bred them. Cut to several years later when I'm working at my old store and we lacked both fish and bird specialists. I originally inquired about the fish because that's what they originally wanted to hire me for (and because nobody knew a dang thing about them and it was hurting the business) but I would have to switch to full time. Thankfully *sarcasm* lovely our assistant manager had just driven away one of the other managers who was the acting bird person at that store (and also one of my favorite managers there) and the position was open. My boss okayed it and I studied the books for several months, scared about the test until Jon told me to just try it because the worst that could happen was failure and I could just try again in a month. So I passed. Then I realized not only did the books not say much beyond the basics and almost nobody in the store could even tell me what a bird is even supposed to eat and I did a little (okay, a lot) of research on my own. So not only did I get a raise, but now it's my job to make sure my coworkers don't accidentally kill off the parakeets.

Wow, long post. Yep, still procrastinating.

Bring on the Chicks

Okay, so I lied in the last post. I couldn't let this sit there with only an intro post, that's boring.

I just finished my PIJAC test for work. That means I'll get a snazzy little certification card and because my GM (as in General Manager not Game Master) renewed hers as well, they will start sending us hand fed chicks again. They are going to send us a Sun Conure and a Green Cheek Conure. I can't wait, but I'm also counting down the days until someone calls me at five-thirty in the morning to tell me that one of the other two who can handfeed has called in sick and could I please come in just for a little bit to make sure the babies are fed?

Oh, and the other day one of my team leads called me homely. That's right, homely.

Okay, it actually went something like this. This guy who claims he's never been out of California manages to identify what part of Ohio I was born just by my latent Midwestern accent. He then notes that southwestern Ohio is more rural and that I probably didn't grow up in one of the larger cities. He then comes out with, "You've always seemed more homely like that." I of course gave him a verbal smack over the head and at the same time pantomiming doing the same to his arm. He then says what he really meant to say which was, "down to earth." I still think he deserves a fine for improper language usage. Homely indeed.
